DKW F89 (1952)

As part of the big family of mdels based on the F9 prototype, the F89 is the first mass production DKW model after the end of the WWII.
Basically the name defines its nature as that 8-9 means that this car is a combo of the F9 desing retaining the two cylinders engine of the F8.

DKW F89 - © Ciclootto.it
DKW F89 – © Ciclootto.it

Here we have 23HP under the hood for a car that draw a line that will be kapt quite intact till the first years of the 60s.
One of the peculiarities of the the F89 is that it has a sister. At the end of WWII, with the division of the German territory, the Soviet Union gained control of the east part of the country.

DKW F89 - © Ciclootto.it
DKW F89 – © Ciclootto.it

The DKW F9 production projects were found in the abandoned Auto Union factory in Zwickau, so the DDR created a model based on the same prototype: the IFA F9. The body is almost identical to the F9 (and F89) and it retained the same F8 engine (even the F8 has been cloned by the IFA).
I really appreciate these lines. The descending back (look at the second pic) gives to these 2 doors cars a distinctive look. I’ve been glad to put the car in the last #tccchallenge that turned out as one of the toughtest of the season.

Fiat 127 Sport (1979)

Orange is the new black?

A little joke on the 3 colors available on the Fiat 127 Sport: Orange, Black and Silver. And even if my fav is black, some guys seems to appreciate much this color (just to say one @grande_tanci).

I caught this 70HP at the Arezzo Classic Motors fair in early 2020 (this year the fair is postponed in April because…..well you already know why) and even in the overabundance of foglights at the front and the white painted rims I can still feel what 70HP can do in a so tiny (and light body).

As I said just today in some comments on IG: “HP are not the same they used to be…”

Jaguar XK120 Racer (1953)

Quite used to see the first XK series as an elegance marvel we must not underestimate its racing nature. So when I met this extreme red racer I’ve been blown away.

This car was part of the last #tcchallenge and due to some of its specs I thought it would be harder to recognize.
I was wrong (as often happens) and you all are too got in recognizing our beloved classics

Fiat 131 CL Mirafiori (1982)

Straight before the introduction of the new Regata (or Regatta in many foreign markets) the Fiat 131 got its last restyling.
Not that much of a change here (but it’s appealed as third series) from the classic family car it is.

Fiat 131 CL Mirafiori - © Ciclootto.it
Fiat 131 CL Mirafiori – © Ciclootto.it

Following a similar fate to its illustrious predecessors in the Fiat range, beside the long Italian production career, this car’s range was produced in many other countries, like Spain, where it was marketed with the Seat brand, but also in Turkey and even in Ethopia!
A globe trotter and a multi soul car (maybe Abarth rings a bell…).

Fiat 131 CL Mirafiori - © Ciclootto.it
Fiat 131 CL Mirafiori – © Ciclootto.it

The car here is a no frills Fiat 131 Mirafiori CL third series, with the basic 1.3 liters engine.
Enough to dream of a rally car? Obviously not, but a simple good companion to have inside the box could be a reassuring thing (but watch out from the rust!).

Lancia Flavia Coupé Pininfarina

When placing this car in the instagram feed, I’ve immediately decided to place the back of the car as the first pic of the carousel.
The reason is quite simple: IMHO is the best part of the car.

Lancia Flavia Coupé Pininfarina - © Ciclootto.it
Lancia Flavia Coupé Pininfarina – © Ciclootto.it

The way Pininfarina resolved the third volume is a 60s classic.
And even if the front of the Flavia that I usually nickname as the “Minion car” (look at half of the front and you’ll agree with me) wasn’t much appreciated at the beginning, this coupé version was immediately convincing.

Lancia Flavia Coupé Pininfarina - © Ciclootto.it
Lancia Flavia Coupé Pininfarina – © Ciclootto.it

Looking at the later evolutions of this car (the 2000) I see the same kind of strategy I saw with the 2nd-3rd series of the Appia, where Lancia placed a more modern front on an old body (here, for me, with a far better result).
Anyway, I would love to have one. of these!

Ferves Ranger

This car has been the protagonist of one of the biggest auction surprise of the recent years.
The Ferves Ranger is a patchwork tiny offroader created using the Fiat 500 engine placed on a custom chassis.

Ferves Ranger - © Ciclootto.it
Ferves Ranger – © Ciclootto.it

Most of the cars’ parts come from Fiat production, including the Fiat 600, 850 and Autobianchi Primula. One of these tiny vehicle has been auctioned by @rmsothebys in Monterey California in 2019 and it seems that two gentlemans started to bid against each other to get it.
Maybe it was only a joke for the two guys or they has been misleaded by the name “Ferrari”: Ferves Is an acronym of Ferrari Veicoli Speciali, a tiny company created by Engineer Carlo Ferrari that clearly has no link with the “Commendatore”.
Anyway, the auction ended up with an incredible assignment at $196,000!!!
From that day, EVERY SINGLE classic car fair here in Italy featured one of these offroader, with people trying to replicate that result! Despite the US auction and the tiny production numbers, these cars are usually sold at around 20.000 €😉
