Born in a season of great achivement in the Space research, the mazda cosmo sport surfed the innovation wave with a car that is a milestone for the brand and for the entire Japanese production world.
I've been very happy to meet this Cosmo in the celebrations for the 100 years of mazda at the milano autoclassica fair, as it's the first one I see in the flesh and I've to admit, it's absolutely fashinating.
Not the car you would expect, as the curious coupé body grabs some ideas from many others products but we've to think that this car was born in the middle of the 60s in Japan, so this is truly a break-through design in many aspects.
The real focal point of the Cosmo is under the hood as this is one of the first production car with the innovative Wankel Rotatory engine, a technology that saw Mazda as one of the strongest supporters.
Even if, for many reasons, the Wankel technology didn't have the hoped impact, this car represent well the Mazda spirit about the innovation and tech capabilities and created a “point in the map” for Mazda.
